Masochist on the Treadmill

On our last day in Vermont, Karen and I headed to Mount Pico.  She wanted to go downhill skiing.  As for me, with no experience of downhill, and being a completel and total chicken will not go near skiing with a 4 foot ski pole (haha).  Hey, I made great progress on the cross country skiing (I think, anyway), and I don't want to mess anything up with a month to go before my Miami Marathon.

So speaking of that behemoth of a race....I decided I would go to the Sports Complex next door.  I had about 5 hours to kill.  Gee, what was a runner to do with 5 hours at a gym????

I ran 21.18 miles.

Not only is this the most I've ever run on a treadmill, previously shattering my record of 16 miles when I ran at the Sheraton in India, but I barely took a break, just stopping after the 2nd full hour of running to refill Karen's pink water bottle (how masculine).   I did it all in 3 hours and 6 minutes, for a pace of 8 minutes and 47 seconds per second.  Wow.

After I was done, I took a shower, and went to the hot tub next to the long indoor pool over there.  Jumped out of there and went to the sauna.  I did this not to sweat, but just to warm up, as I only stayed there for a few minutes.  Unfortunately, I gave myself a pretty nasty blister on my second toe of my left foot (the one next to the big toe, that is).  Later on that evening, after driving for hours to get home, Karen put a bandage on it to help the swelling go down.

This was a good way to end the year, plus I needed one more insanely long run before the Miami Marathon too.

RACE REPORT: Ted Corbitt. A meaner, slimmer Santa.

So yeah, I did it again.  Dressed up as Santa Claus, though this time I was void of alcohol in my system.  My time? 1:19:34 or an 8:34 pace, not my best, but my best as Santa, yes!

There.  this was the shortest race report evah!

Oh yeah... I saw somebody kissing Santa Claus.....
